Do You Have a New Year’s Beauty Resolution?

Posted on December 28, 2009 · Filed Under styling tools

Happy Holidays! I hope you’ve had a great week of family, food and PRESENTS.

I’ve been thinking about resolutions I have for this website for 2010, and I’ve really been slacking in the product review department, y’all. Given the sheer amount of products lying around this house, stuffed in drawers, in the garage and under the bed, I think I have a years’ worth of reviews for you.

Beauty reviews can be daunting – especially when you are trying to describe and demonstrate products via the written word. So! 2010 will be the year of Hair Thursday video reviews. Get ready, little Flip Mino. You’ll be working hard this year.

What about you all? Do you have any resolutions in regards to your beauty routine?

Be brave and step out of my box with a new hair color and cut, a funky nail color, eyeliner I’d never think to use before. 2010 is my year to be brave (stealing this thought, blatantly, from the ever-wise Laurie from Laurie Writes).

I want to grow my hair back out and take better care of it. I just got new makeup which matches my skin tone better, so there’s a first step towards my beauty routine, but I also want to take really good care of my skin so I can try and get that creamy complexion I’m looking for!

Hurrah! I adore your videos! Can’t wait to see more. :) You know, until you have your own TV show. Naturally.

My beauty resolution is simple: be more brave. I want to be a red-head, get some sort of bangs, and wear red lipstick (maybe not all three at the same time, but you never know).

    :)

I want to continue to grow my hair out and stop coloring it. I even had my hair stylist go darker this time so it would look more natural. Unfortunately it looks less natural because it is too dark all over and too streaky blond in the front. Hopefully it will fade out.

I also want to eat better in the hopes that it will make my complexion look better (you are what you eat right!). Get more sleep and actually style my hair every morning instead of running out the door with barely blow dried flat & frizzy humidified straw.

    That’s it.

I’m also growing my hair out (so bored with the bob I’ve had for the last couple years). I also want to take more risks with makeup. And I’ve started flossing every single day, and I really hope to keep it up. I finally got tired of my dentist bugging me to floss!

I would love you to talk about brushes in a post. I think you have a Mason Pearson brush? Mostly curious about what kind. I know there are pure boar brushes and then mixed bristle brushes. Will a mixed be worth the price or do I go for the all boar?

That’s a great question, Tammi Marie. Yes, I do have a Mason Pearson and I’ll definitely do a video on that!

I’m going to try to step away from the box color because it’s ruining my hair. I had my hair cut short which eliminated most of the damaged section from this spring. Even if I have dreaded roots for a couple weeks; I need to stick to salon coloring.

To jump on Tammi Marie’s brush review suggestion, not only would I LOVE to see a product review on brushes but also how to brush your hair and how often.

I am a confused idiot when it comes to brushing. There seem to be several schools of thought on brushing hair, even with a brush as deluxe as the Mason Pearson brush. Some people say brush it as little as possible, while others say brush daily.

I bought a Mason Pearson brush for myself as my big fat splurge Xmas gift. I’ve looked at the little devil over the past few days wondering to use daily, or to use only before washing my hair??

Generally when I’m this confused, I turn to people who have gorgeous hair themselves, “What do you do?”

So Sarah, given the absolute beauty and luster of your own locks, maybe you could also share your brushing routine with us sometime in 2010? Do you brush daily before bed? Before washing? Do you use your Mason Pearson to style your hair (after you’ve roundbrushed it?)

For 2010, my goal is to check hairthursday.com more often. Thank you for such a wonderful educational forum. I learn a ton from you and all your followers!

Ricky’s NYC has a lot of affordable name-brand makeup available in store and on their website (www.rickysnyc.com), including their exclusive makeup line called Mattese Elite. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re interested.
